Public School: State law requires children six to 16 years old to attend school. A child must be five years old on or before September 1 to attend kindergarten. To enter first grade, a child must be six by September 1 of the school year.
To enroll in Florida public schools, state law requires that new students show immunization records with dates of shots and a physical examination certified by a licensed medical doctor within the past 12 months, plus proof of MMR shots. In addition, new students must have documentation of birth, a Social Security number and proof of residency. A declaration of domicile is needed if their parents or guardians have not lived in Florida for at least one year, are not in the military, or have not purchased a residence.
